The course provides a first approach on the exam of physical and immaterial networks as elements of spatial organization of human settlements and economic activities. Network structures characterize to-date society in different shapes and with different impacts on space. Networks and the visualization of the spatial organization effects they produce on space are the core elements of this course. Transport and communication networks in particular are the most important ones in shaping the pattern of interaction in the geographical space, offering the channels where economic development and human relations flow. In its first module the course tackles the introductory and methodological elements of the network phenomena and relations drawn over the territory, as well as evidences of network structures and spaces in our geographical context – national and European. The second module considers particularly the networks in an international context of spatial and economical organization, these comprehending aspects as the digital – and social – divide and the globalization.
