Bio:

Maria is a tenure-track professor at the University of Trieste (Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics and Statistics). Her research is in development economics with a focus on inequality, social mobility and women economic empowerment using methods of applied microeconometrics. In the past years she has conducted research on the evolution and drivers of child nutrition, reproductive health, education and inequality of opportunities in Indonesia. 

Maria obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of Göttingen under the supervision of Stephan Klasen. Prior to joining University of Trieste she held positions at University of Bari, UNU-WIDER (Helsinki), University of Göttingen and University of Verona. She also conducted various consulting and advisory studies for several international agencies, such as UN-WOMEN, UN-DESA, ODI, EBRD, and for the Governement of Indonesia's National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction.
