Ludovico Carrino is Associate Professor in Public Economics at the University of Trieste and Visiting Senior Lecture at King’s College London and the Centre for Society & Mental Health. He has served as an external consultant on health- and ageing-economics for the World Health Organization (WHO Kobe Centre for Health Development).

His work lies in applied health economics, with a particular focus on long-term care for older people, the economics of ageing and pensions, and the social determinants of health. More broadly, Ludovico studies welfare economics and the multidimensional assessment of complex phenomena such as quality of life, job quality and physical-and-mental frailty.

He is co-author of books on the economics of long-term care published by Palgrave Macmillan and Cambridge University Press. He is a co-investigator on the international project Gateway to Global Aging (https://g2aging.org/) and heads its local unit at the University of Trieste. His research has appeared in leading journals in economics, sociology and epidemiology, including the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Health Economics, Labour Economics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Social Science & Medicine, European Societies, Health Policy, American Journal of Epidemiology, and the Journal of Gerontology.
