Relatore: dott. Fabio Ricciato - EUROSTAT Task Force on Big Data

Abstract.

The talk sketches an evolutionary perspective of the production process of Official Statistics in the context of an increasingly "datafied" world,  highlighting the main opportunities and key challenges that are associated with the exploitation of novel so-called "big data" sources held in the private sector and/or by citizens. The concept of "Trusted Smart Statistics" is introduced and explained along with related requirements, design principles and preliminary ideas for a general reference architecture.

An important prospective role is played by technologies  enabling cross-domain processing of confidential data sources that do not require cross-domain data sharing, e.g. Secure Multi-Party Computation and Trusted Hardware.

The goal of the talk is not to report on conclusive results, but rather open a window on work-in-progress activity within EUROSTAT, inspire  and stimulate further reflection by the participants.

The talk is intended for a wide general audience. Students, academics and professionals dealing with "data" (analysis, governance) and "computations" are welcome to attend. No particular technical background is required. Just bring your curiosity.
