Seminar Conference "Simulation Models for Energy Transition" | 9–10 April 2025 | DEAMS – UniTS. Speaker: Peter Hogeveen, PhD candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the upcoming Seminar Conference organized by the PhD candidate Muhammad Arsalan Khan Niazi, in collaboration with Prof. Danielis and Prof. Scorrano, to be held from 9 to 10 April 2025 at the Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics, and Statistics (DEAMS).

This interdisciplinary event will center around the themes of energy markets, sustainable mobility, logistics, and the application of advanced simulation modelling frameworks — with a particular focus on Agent-Based Modelling (ABM), System Dynamics (SD), and Discrete Event Simulation (DES).

The conference aims to foster a vibrant academic dialogue between researchers, students, and professionals on the role of modelling in informing policy, business strategies, and sustainability transitions.

We are honoured to welcome Peter Hogeveen as the main speaker of the conference. Mr. Hogeveen is a PhD candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology, where his research investigates the interplay of electric vehicles, renewable energy integration, and autonomous mobility using agent-based simulation. He also serves as a model developer at ZEnMO Simulations, where he has developed advanced digital twins and simulation tools supporting energy and mobility transitions across Europe.

Mr. Hogeveen will deliver two featured presentations:

  1. Simulation Models: Examples and Applications (April, 9th 2025, 15:00- 17:00, Room 4A, Building D - DEAMS)

Aimed at Master’s and early-stage researchers, this session will provide a broad overview of real-world modelling cases applied to energy and mobility systems.

  1. Simulation Models for Energy Transition (April, 10th 2025, 15:00- 17:00, 1_A Conference Room, Building D - DEAMS)

Specifically tailored for PhD students, this session will delve deeper into methodological and policy-relevant aspects of simulation modelling.

Key themes and discussion topics include:

  • Agent-based modelling for energy and transport adoption behaviour
  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and digital twin applications
  • Software comparisons: AnyLogic, Python/Java-based platforms, and others
  • Integration of ABM, SD, and DES approaches in real-world use cases
  • Academic modelling practices: Italy vs. the Netherlands
  • Data availability for energy and mobility system modelling
  • The intersection of simulation, policy design, and entrepreneurship
  • PhD research pathways and future collaboration opportunities

The program will also include live model demonstrations, interactive workshops, and feedback sessions designed to support knowledge-sharing and modelling proficiency among participants.

We extend this invitation to all interested PhD researchers, MSc students, academic faculty, and professionals working on energy, mobility, policy analysis, and computational modelling.

We look forward to your participation in this dynamic and collaborative academic initiative!
