Research

My research embraces theoretical and applied statistics, with strong emphasis in Bayesian methods, computational statistics, and applications in fields such as biostatistics, economics, genomics, and sports analytics. I am the Principal Investigator (PI) of the PRIN 2022 project SMARTsports - Statistical Models and AlgoRiThms in sports. Applications in professional and amateur contexts, with able-bodied and disabled athletes funded by Ministero dell’ Università e della Ricerca (CUP: J53D23003860006) in 2023. Joint project with University of Udine and University of Brescia.

I usually give talks, seminars, and interviews about my scientific activity and general topics statistics related to science.

Teaching, supervision, and consultancy

I belong to the teaching board of the PhD program in Applied Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (ADSAI) of the University of Trieste.

I supervise master’s and PhD students, see my full list of supervised students.

I collaborate internationally with universities like Columbia University, Athens University of Economics and Business, and the University of Zurich. I am also involved in various statistical consulting projects, particularly in the health and business sectors.

I teach courses of ‘Advanced Statistics’, ‘Statistical and Machine Learning’, and ‘Bayesian Statistics’. See more about my academic and external courses.

I am an active member of the Italian Statistical Society (SIS) and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA). I am the deputy chair of the ISI Special Interest Group in Sports Statistics.
